How to use this resource
Define stages and a cohort
Choose one vacancy and a date range. Define what qualifies as a completed screen, interview, offer and start. Deduplicate people who appear through more than one source.
Track handoffs as well as totals
Record how long candidates wait for feedback, interview scheduling and offer approval. Use anonymous identifiers in a working report and retain private candidate details in the approved hiring system.
Calculate conversion only for comparable groups
Divide the number advancing by the number eligible to advance in the same cohort. Mark incomplete cohorts clearly; do not compare this week's interviews with last month's unrelated applications.
Choose one process change to evaluate
If qualified candidates wait on interview dates, fix scheduling. If interviews reveal a different clinical requirement, revise the brief. Record the change date and review a later comparable cohort.
A worked example
Illustrative example: if 12 candidates complete screening and 4 meet the agreed requirements, the qualified-screen rate is 4 ÷ 12 = 33.3%. That figure describes this cohort only; it is not an industry benchmark or a forecast of hires.
Apply the decision to the actual Baltimore vacancy
Name the street address, municipality and county, and keep Baltimore City neighborhoods separate from Baltimore County places. Baltimore County has no incorporated municipalities in the Census Bureau’s place-by-county file, so Towson, Pikesville, Owings Mills, Cockeysville, Catonsville, Essex and Dundalk are census designated places. Annapolis, Bel Air, Havre de Grace and Westminster are incorporated, while Columbia, Ellicott City, Elkridge, Glen Burnie, Odenton and Eldersburg are census designated places. A mailing name can differ from the Census place: the Census geocoder puts an Annapolis address on Bestgate Road in Parole, an Elkridge address on Marie Curie Drive in Columbia and a Bel Air address on Baltimore Pike in Bel Air North. Coverage on this site is limited to Maryland; a hospital in another state falls under a different licensing authority.
Give the hiring team one brief for each facility, with clinical work, technician delegation, weekend duties and location commitments stated together. Maryland licenses veterinarians from July 1 to June 30 and asks for 18 hours of continuing education every year, so state the renewal date and the support the practice provides. O*NET OnLine, using Bureau of Labor Statistics 2025 wage data, lists a median annual wage for veterinarians in the Baltimore-Columbia-Towson area slightly below the Maryland median and well above the national median, which is context candidates may bring to an offer. The University of Maryland catalog describes a regional DVM program with three years at Virginia Tech and a clinical senior year, and a veterinarian licensed in another state applies under COMAR 15.14.08. This site describes employer hiring coverage without claiming a Baltimore recruiting office.
Give every provider the same hospital address, clinical scope, work schedule, compensation structure and decision dates. Compare the plan for that brief. A result appearing for a city search does not prove a provider has a local office or available candidates there.
